Charlotte & Oliver

Our Story

From a chance meeting to forever, our journey in moments

Our story, told from both of our hearts
A Party, A Piano, A Spark01

A Party, A Piano, A Spark

We met at a rooftop party in Williamsburg. Oliver was attempting to play piano — badly — and Charlotte couldn't stop laughing. He asked if she could do better. She sat down and played Clair de Lune flawlessly. He knew right then he was in trouble.

The Bookshop Date02

The Bookshop Date

Our first real date was at a tiny bookshop in the West Village. We spent three hours pulling books off shelves and reading passages to each other. He picked Neruda. I picked Mary Oliver. We left with seven books and one unspoken certainty: this was different.

Our First Apartment03

Our First Apartment

A shoebox in Carroll Gardens with a leaky faucet and the world's smallest kitchen. We painted the walls sage green, hung mismatched frames, and called it home. The faucet still leaks. We don't care.

Christmas Eve Tradition04

Christmas Eve Tradition

We started our own tradition: Christmas Eve fondue, terrible holiday movies, and one gift at midnight. That year he gave me a first-edition copy of my favorite childhood book. I gave him a framed photo of us from the rooftop where we met.

The Amalfi Letters05

The Amalfi Letters

We spent ten days on the Amalfi Coast and made a deal: no phones at dinner. Instead, we wrote each other letters on napkins every night. I still have all ten of hers folded in my passport case.

When I Knew06

When I Knew

It wasn't a grand moment. He was reading on the couch, absent-mindedly playing with my hair while I worked on my laptop. I looked over and thought, 'Oh. There you are. The rest of my life.' I didn't say it out loud. Not yet.

The Question07

The Question

I took her back to the same rooftop where we met. Same piano, same view. But this time I got down on one knee. She laughed, then cried, then said 'Obviously, yes.' The whole party cheered. She had no idea they were all in on it.
